THE KARDASHIANS AREN'T COMING TO DALLAS, BUT THEIR INTERIOR DESIGNER IS

Because I’m an interiors enthusiast but not a designer, when I attended Texas Design Week in 2018, I initially had a bit of trepidation and reserve about whether I might be the skunk at the garden party. However, I was quickly pleased to find that the weeklong Paper City event showcases Dallas’ talent for hospitality as much as its penchant for exceptional design. The events, highly-curated and imbued with bubbly (which never hurts), are a one-of-a-kind opportunity for design education, personal connection with interior designers and showrooms, and a real immersive experience in the design world for industry professionals and decorating dilettantes alike. After last year, I even planned my fall travel calendar to make sure I could be in Dallas for Texas Design Week 2019, which runs from October 7-11.

Dean Rhys Morgan Jeremiah Goodwin

The calendar is full and promises to be another wonderful week, which I will be sharing on social media, but leading up to a busy week of events are are few that stand out.

For those fascinated with the intersection of illustration and interior design, Dean Rhys Morgan promises to illuminate the work of the late Jeremiah Goodman during a talk and book signing at Ralph Lauren. Goodman’s illustrations include the homes of icons such as Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Nancy and Ronald Reagan, Elsie de Wolfe, Tony Duquette and more. The author, who is a self-described graduate of Condé Nast, and “eye,” worked with Jeremiah for nine years and promises an insider’s peek into the artist’s process and work.

Kylie Jenner Martyn Lawrence Bullard

And one certainly can’t pass up an opportunity for cocktails and canapés with Martyn Lawrence Bullard, whose name you know if you have kept up with the Kardashians. Featured in Architectural Digest, Bullard designed avid baker Kylie’s famous kitchen, and so we can only hope his talk and book-signing event might give us a behind-the-scenes look into how those (k)ookies are really made...

Also, the editor-in-chief of Architectural Digest, Amy Astley, will reflect on 100 years of the best of Architectural Digest in a discussion around the publication of Architectural Digest at 100: A Century of Style. While I am fascinated to learn about what must have been a simply insurmountable task in compiling the tome, I am equally riveted by the process of of publishing design projects (and will be taking notes for those interested).

Architectural Digest 100

Finally, I am looking forward to attending what is the most important event (to me) of the week: Texas Design Week awards night at the super-chic Joule Hotel and pre-party at Forty Five Ten, hosted by Bullard this year. The very red carpet-ish ceremony (I’ll never forget the way Amy Berry so ethereally floated down the aisle in a taffeta designer confection to accept her award for Best Children’s Room) recognizes the hard work of our local Dallas interior design talent and is an important opportunity to celebrate additional noteworthy projects outside of a glossy publication.

In Dallas next week? Join us for some true Texas hospitality and world-class interior design… and a cocktail or two… tickets here.
