LOVE IN THE TIME OF QUARANTINE: THE TENNIS & GOLF EDIT

LOVE IN THE TIME OF QUARANTINE: THE TENNIS & GOLF EDIT

Anyone for socially-distanced tennis?

Wherever we might presently find ourselves in the stages of re-opening or perhaps re-quarantining, habits, hobbies, and pastimes have never quite been the same. My pilates ritual has been suspended indefinitely, those beloved cocktail hours (and dresses) are pretty much on the rocks, and travel is off the books—the closest I’ve come to our jettisoned Sea Island girls’ trip is the taste of my own tears. (Need I disclaim that this is all tongue-in-cheek given the current state of global affairs?) But Don’t Worry, our omniscient Gwyneth assured us. Use this time to learn a new language! Write a novel! Live your best life! Now this may come as a shock, but I’ve done no such thing. Maybe when you pry the Charmin, Grey Goose, and 10000000 piece puzzle from my cold, dead, hands, Gwynnie. God grant me the senility, teehee.

I jest, but there is a pastime I have grown to love: tennis. Social distancing benefits aside, tennis might truly be the ultimate quarantine sport: there are few other pastimes where it’s perfectly acceptable (and encouraged) to launch projectiles at your family members—while wearing a dress. (And it has inspired my latest painting series — sign up here to join the release list!)

As if we needed another excuse to shop, I have put together a list of my latest favorite essentials for both on and off the court or the course (group therapy not included!).

Everything HEDGE. From this so-chic, completely brunch-worthy tennis dress to this perfectly-cut racerback polo top, I am smitten with everything HEDGE. The flattering, understated designs are just as much form as function. Message me for more recs!

THESE visors — ethically handmade by artisans in Bali, they ring up under $35 and mine shipped the day after I ordered.

Pamela Munson handbag — loving this fresh take on plaid in a classic woven straw tote.

This set of striped Turkish towels. During COVID, many clubs are now requiring that guests furnish their our own towels, and these fluffy towels are perfect to go from court to poolside. They come in a pack of four for under $45 in several different color options, so a forgotten towel won’t be too terribly bank-breaking.

Tory Burch can’t be beat when it comes to stylish activewear—I wear this white skirt regularly and just ordered this chic green pullover on sale.

SCONSET mineral sunscreen. Always on the hunt for a clean, effective sunscreen, I keep several sticks of Sconset around in my tennis bag and my pool tote, and my husband’s golf bag. These are great to quickly re-apply on ears, noses, and cheeks!

The perfect quatrefoil stud earrings from Hazen & Co. that are under $50 but look like four thousand bucks!

Tennis totes — monogrammed, natch. This one from Parker Thatch holds two rackets and all your essentials, or try this splurge from French brand L/Uniform.

Timeless sunglasses flattering for every face shape.

Tried and true Tretorn sneakers in a bright green colorway.

The 19th Hole… for fun, cocktail napkins from the new launch of dear tabletop doyenne Elizabeth Lake.
