IN DALLAS, SHOPPING IS THE SECRET TO KEEPING COOL

It’s so hot I almost can’t think clearly enough to write (hi from Dallas! You don’t wish you were here!). Once upon a time, I used to stop shopping for summer clothes after the end of July. By this point, I felt like I had everything I needed to sail through the next few weeks of summer before bidding a very fond farewell to seersucker and white shoes after Labor Day. Plus, I love the anticipation of autumn: the Vogue September issue is on its way, chock full of fall fashion to lust over while I long for cooler temperatures.
But now, a week into my third August in Dallas, I am finally owning up to the fact that I need to abandon my traditional seasonal shopping moratorium if I’m going to sweat out this thing (Texas summer) alive to see snow in Jackson Hole. That said, here are the six things I’m shopping and wearing to help keep my cool from now until fall arrives in Dallas in December. (Just kidding! Kinda.)
LAKE House Dresses. I truly don’t know how I ever lived without them, but I am actually now living in the Verbena Summer Dress (several of you asked about it on Insta) and the Solar Ruffle Dress from Lake both day and night. They are airy and lightweight enough for a swimsuit coverup (although not see-through) but dress up easily enough with a pair of great earrings like these (majorly on sale!) from Rebecca De Ravenel.
Supergoop! x Rebecca Taylor Setting Mist. While I have somewhat lightened my daily makeup routine for summer, when it’s so hot that you can feel your face melting away, this truly helps it to stay in place. This mist smells divine and is a refreshing way to add another layer of SPF 50 when it’s time to re-up. I have it in travel size, too, so it’s with me on the go.
Velvet Canyon Sunglasses. A few years ago, my mother handed down to me her vintage Optyl sunglasses that she wore during the 70s. I am completely obsessed with their oversized frame shape, and I’ve never seen anything at all similar until stumbling across these from Velvet Canyon. They are perfect for hiding behind at the grocery store, although we would never do such a thing, would we?
K. Jacques Sandals. I’ve mentioned my love for K. Jacques before, and these are a timeless wardrobe staple that I’ll be wearing well into the fall.
Marysia Swimsuits. All summer I have been SO happy with Marysia’s Scalloped Mexico Top. It gives a little more coverage than a regular two-piece, and the cap sleeves add a touch of chic when paired with a sarong. This gingham version is adorable and the matching bottoms are on sale for under $50!
Lele Sadoughi Headband. When it’s too hot to do hair, a headband is to the rescue. Plus, Lele herself hails from Dallas, so surely the summer heat has made for inspired design.
